Today our house water meter was installed. It had been a very long wait… over 4 months waiting since the application was submitted to City of Houston. The builder had to truck in water using 55-gallon drums to do all the stone & brick mortar… it would have been much easier if water would have been available on site. Now it finally is! Still waiting on the installation of our 2nd water meter… for the landscaping/grass usage.
This past week the painters have been busy staining cabinets! It was definitely not easy to breath in there whenever the paint crew was spraying the stain. All the kitchen cabinets, the Kitchen and Great Room ceiling wood beams, master bedroom vanities, and various other cabinets have now been stained. Not every cabinet is being stained… some cabinets will be painted once all the staining is complete.
Staining is really a messy process… they made quite a mess in the Great Room. Yet it is going to look great when it’s all done!
Today was another milestone day… we now have electricity inside our new house!
We have underground utilities in our subdivision, so the contractor buried our electric feeder cables into conduit pipes about 3 feet underground all the way to the house from the main power transformer.
While the trench was still open and after the electrical conduit was installed, I also assembled and tossed into the trench my own 130-feet of 1-inch conduit pipe to use for pulling our internet, phone, and TV cables at a later date. I buried my conduit pipe about 2 feet down… about a foot above the main electrical cable… hopefully this will prevent our internet/TV coax cables from ever being accidentally cut by any lawn sprinkler digging. This conduit pipe will also provide for an easy future-proof way to install newer fiber-optic cables when available! Great Progress!
Over the past 4 weeks, the trim carpenters… Rolando, Ethan, Rubin, & Muncho… have been very busy every day custom-building all the cabinets, closets trim, baseboards and crown molding. It’s been exciting to visit the house and see the progress each day.
Now all the cabinets and trim have been completed… a momentous milestone! We just completed our formal walk-thru and sign-off with the supervisor and we are ready for staining and painting! Awesome!
Today the trim carpenters installed the window trim around our two large butted-windows in the Great Room. This required setting up the scaffolding inside the house in order to reach the heights of the upper window… the ceiling in this room is 22 feet high. After much measuring and cutting and fitting, the installation looks beautiful.
Another big milestone… today the tile guy installed the master bathroom shower wall tile. The mosaic ribbon tile will have to be installed later… it’s due to arrive next week. Progress!
Today the tub/shower wall tile was installed in the upstairs guest bathroom. Still to do is the mosaic tile ribbon and the tile inside the shower niche… that tile has not yet arrived.
Great to see the completed tile… wonderful progress!
Today the tile guy applied the fiberglass waterproofing to all the cement-board seams in the master bathroom walk-thru shower. This also included waterproofing the entire bench seat which is inside the shower. Tile installation will be next!
Milestone Day! Today is the first day of floor tile installation at Casa Paloma.
The Kitchen floor was the winner as this was the very first room in which tiling began. Seeing the floor tile going in was exciting… as this was the first time we got to see the actual color choice of anything which will be present once we move in. Wow.
